How was the information for the TPA Directory gathered?
We compiled all data by emailing TPAs a link to our update web site ( www.tpadirectory.com ). Approximately 50% of the TPAs completed the online questionnaires. The other 50% that did not respond to the questionnaires were interviewed via telephone by our staff researchers. All data was gathered from Feb 2007 to May 2007.

What types of organizations are included?
(Note: This directory does not include TPAs whose sole business is the administration of Retirement Plans.) The Standard Directory of Third Party Administrators was created to help identify TPAs and the range of services they provide. The term "Third Party Administrator" is broad and defined differently by the various sectors of the employee benefits industry. For the purposes of this directory, we have defined a TPA as an administrative organization that pays or adjudicates claims and/or provides administrative services for group health, welfare and workers' compensation plans. These TPAs may perform some or all aspects of the plan administration. These TPAs administer plans for self-insured companies, unions, associations, governments, school districts, and they may contract to administer self-funded or fully-insured plans on behalf of health insurers, dental insurers, vision insurers, life insurers, disability insurers, insurance carriers, and other types of underwriters and organizations.
